Villa Pietra is nestled amongst the bungalows of Bakoven, an area characterised by rich round granite boulders, stone textures, small intimate beaches and wild clear coastal waters. In the distance, the enigmatic twelve apostles mountain range. VDHDW architects were appointed as the local interior architects working in close collaboration with Jane Bates and Thomas Geh to create a beach bungalow experience that embraced this rich and stark context.

The contemporary architectural design hosts a darker interior material palette of stone and metal that is complimented by the warmth of timber, fabric and lighting to create a heightened interior experience. Throughout the project, the daily rituals of home and comfort found in more classical interior design are re-introduced in a contemporary way without losing sight of modern aesthetics, functionality and conveniences. Locally sourced fittings and furniture bring a unique identity and playfulness to the spaces; a homage to the creative energy of South Africa.
